Text: 1 Timothy 6:11–12
“But you, O man of God, flee these things and pursue righteousness, godliness, faith, love, patience, gentleness. Fight the good fight of faith…
The battle against sin is the Fierst of all spiritual battles in a believer's life - Heb 12:1-4.
1. The Fiercest Battle: The Battle Against Sin ( ungodliness)
The Christian life is not passive; it is militant. The struggle against sin is described as striving to the point of blood (Heb. 12:4).
Matthew 11:12 reveals that the Kingdom of God is advanced by spiritual violence, not compromise.
Sin resists surrender; it fights to remain enthroned in the believer’s life.
WHAT IS UNGODLINESS?
Ungodliness refers to a life lived without reverence for God, His authority, or His standards.
Ungodliness is not just doing wrong — it is living as though God does not rule.
Ungodliness is Condemned by God Romans 1:18
“For the wrath of God is revealed from heaven against all ungodliness and unrighteousness of men…”
FORMS OF UNGODLINESS
1. Irreverence Toward God (No fear of God)
2. Rebellion Against God’s Authority
3. Worldliness (Divided loyalty)
4. Moral Corruption (Defiled living)
5. Hypocrisy (False spirituality)
6. Lawlessness (Truth rejected)
7. Ungodly speech (Corrupt heart)
8. Pride (Self enthroned)
Ungodliness is not one sin but a system of living without God.
ungodliness as a sin not as an iniquity
It manifests in attitudes, speech, conduct, and values and must be confronted through the fight of faith.
Why the Battle Is Fierce: Satanic Strongholds
Ephesians 6:10–12 | 2 Corinthians 10:3–6
Sin is not merely a moral issue; it is a spiritual stronghold.
Behind repeated sinful patterns are organized demonic forces.
These strongholds operate in:
The mind (wrong thoughts, lies, deception)
The will (bondage, addiction, stubbornness)
The affections (corrupted desires)
Where sin persists unchallenged, satanic influence is often entrenched.
THE CYCLE OF STRONGHOLD OPERATION
Strongholds do not begin with actions; they begin with thoughts
(2 Corinthians 10:3-5)
Mind > Will > Affections> Result
THE MIND – WRONG THOUGHTS & DECEPTION
(Entry point of the stronghold)
2 Samuel 11:2
“David saw a woman bathing; and the woman was very beautiful…”
What happened in the mind
David entertained the thought instead of rejecting it. The lie entered: “I can look.” “This won’t affect me.”
The momentary thought was not taken captive.
Temptation becomes deception when it is entertained.
THE WILL – CHOICE & AGREEMENT
(Bondage begins here)
2 Samuel 11:3–4 “David sent and inquired… and took her…”
What happened in the will ,David made deliberate decisions:
He sent for her.
He took her.
His authority enabled his will to override conscience.
Choice turned temptation into sinful action.
Sin gains power when the will agrees with the mind’s deception.
3. THE AFFECTIONS – CORRUPTED DESIRES
(Attachment and covering up)
2 Samuel 11:5–27
David:
Tried to manipulate Uriah
Arranged his death
Why?
Emotional attachment
Desire to preserve reputation
Fear of exposure
What this shows
The heart became entangled.
David no longer just committed sin—he protected it.
unlike JOSEPH Genesis 39:7–12
Mind: Refused the thought
Will: Fled immediately
Affections: Remained loyal to God
Same temptation — different outcome.
The difference was where the cycle was broken.
