INTRODUCTION
One of the greatest questions a person can ask is:
“What is God's plan for my life?”
Why am I here?
Why did God create me?
What am I supposed to become?
What is my assignment on earth?
1. GOD'S WORD REVEALS GOD'S VISION FOR MAN
Isaiah 29:11–12
The Bible is not merely a religious book.
It is God's revelation.
Therefore, one of the greatest dangers to a believer is to live according to a definition that did not come from God.
2. GOD'S WORD IS THE MANUAL OF THE CREATOR
Think about something simple.
If you buy a machine, the manufacturer normally gives you a manual.
Genesis 1:27
You are not self-created.
God is your Creator.
Therefore, your purpose is not something you manufacture.
Your purpose is something you discover.
And God's Word is one of the primary places where that discovery happens.
3. IF PEOPLE CAN DISCOVER THEIR PROFESSION FROM BOOKS, WE CAN DISCOVER OUR PURPOSE FROM GOD'S BOOK
Jesus said:
“Search the scriptures.” — John 5:39
The word is search.
It speaks of investigation.
Examination.
Looking deeply.
You don't search for something by casually looking at it once.
You search because you believe there is something there that you need to discover.
4. YOUR LIFE HAS A DIVINE BLUEPRINT
One of the most powerful truths in Scripture is that God's purposes concerning Christ were already written before He came physically into the world.
Jesus did not arrive on earth and begin guessing what He was supposed to do.
He knew there was something written concerning Him.
Hebrews 10:7
Jesus found Himself in the Scriptures.
The Scripture was not merely telling Him about history.
It was revealing His assignment.
5. SOMETIMES THE SILENCE IN YOUR LIFE IS BECAUSE GOD IS SHOWING YOU TO SEARCH
There are seasons in Scripture where we don't hear much about what Jesus was doing.
Why?
Because there was a process of preparation.
There was a time when Jesus was growing.
There was a time when He was increasing in wisdom.
Luke 2:52
“And Jesus increased in wisdom and stature, and in favour with God and man.”
A. YOU ARE AN EAGLE
Deuteronomy 32:9–14
God describes His people using the picture of an eagle.
The eagle is associated with height, strength, vision and the ability to rise above.
This tells us something about God's intention for His people.
You were not redeemed merely to survive.
6. EVERY CHILD OF GOD HAS AN IDENTITY REVEALED IN THE WORD
Every child of God is redeemed.
That redemption gives us a new identity.
The Bible uses powerful pictures to help us understand what God has made us.
7. YOU ARE LIKE THE SUN — CALLED TO CARRY LIGHT
The sun provides light and energy that sustain life.
Plants depend on sunlight.
Plants provide food and oxygen that support other forms of life.
Everything is connected.
In the same way, God did not save you only for yourself.
Your life is supposed to become a blessing to others.
Jesus said:
Matthew 5:14
“Ye are the light of the world.”
Notice He did not say:
“You are the light of your house.”
8. PURPOSE IS NOT TRIAL AND ERROR
This is where the message becomes very practical.
Many people live like this:
“Let me try this.”
It fails.
“Let me try that.”
It fails.
9. THE HOLY SPIRIT HELPS US UNDERSTAND WHAT IS WRITTEN
However, we need something more than merely owning a Bible.
We need the Holy Spirit.
Because you can have the Book and still miss the message.
You can read the words and miss the revelation.
You can read Scripture without understanding how it applies to your life.
Jesus said:
John 16:13
“When he, the Spirit of truth, is come, he will guide you into all truth...”
The Holy Spirit is our divine Teacher.
Therefore, Bible study should not simply be:
“Holy Spirit, help me finish this chapter.”
10. YOU CANNOT ACCESS WHAT YOU REFUSE TO SEARCH
Imagine someone saying:
“I believe God has a plan for me.”
Then you ask:
“How much time do you spend searching the Word?”
“I don't really read the Bible.”
There is a problem.
If the blueprint is in the Book, but you never open the Book, how will you discover the blueprint?
Jeremiah 33:3
“Call unto me, and I will answer thee, and shew thee great and mighty things, which thou knowest not.”
11. JESUS FOUND HIS ASSIGNMENT IN WHAT WAS WRITTEN
Look again at Luke 4.
Jesus opened the scroll.
He found the place where it was written concerning Him.
12. STOP ASKING ONLY “WHAT DO I WANT TO DO?”
One of the biggest questions our generation asks is:
“What do you want to do with your life?”
But the believer should ask a deeper question:
13. YOUR PURPOSE IS DISCOVERED, DEVELOPED AND DEPLOYED
There are three stages.
1. DISCOVER IT
Search the Word.
Study Scripture.
Pray.
Listen to the Holy Spirit.
Observe the gifts and burdens God has placed inside you.
2. DEVELOP IT
Once you discover something, develop it.
Jesus grew.
David developed.
Paul developed.
The disciples developed.
Discovery without development produces frustration.
3. DEPLOY IT
Eventually, what God has placed inside you must become a blessing to others.
You don't discover purpose simply to admire it.
You discover it so you can fulfill it.
14. WHAT IS WRITTEN MUST BECOME WHAT IS LIVED
There is a danger of becoming someone who knows Scripture but does not practice Scripture.
You can know what is written and still not walk in it.
